Accessories are great for updating last year’s wardrobe and hitting the “refresh” button on your style. Spring trends in mens fashion this year include bright and pastel colors, and many clothing designs that are more closely fitted to the body than in years past. But don’t worry if you’re not ready for a new, fitted suit, or if you don’t want to replace favorite dress shirts with their pastel equivalents. You can do a lot for your wardrobe just by investing in some new accessories. Here are five accessories that will add new life to your clothing this spring and summer.
Jackets That Are More Closely Fitted
A denim or twill jacket that is cut more closely to the body is perfect over a well-fitting t-shirt and won’t break your budget. You can probably get wear from it all the way through Memorial Day, and it will be waiting for you in September when evenings turn chilly again. Just don’t pair a denim jacket with jeans. Going “full denim” is a serious fashion mistake.
Two-Toned Metal Watches
It’s fine if you can’t afford a Rolex. Who can? You can find lots of metal-on-metal watches that give your wrist understated style and mean you don’t have to dig for your phone when you want to know what time it is. And these watches never really go out of style, so you can wear one for years.
Preppy Feet: Loafers and Boat Shoes
You probably need a new pair of shoes anyway after the winter, so why not invest in one of this spring’s hottest shoe trends for guys: preppy shoes? If your wardrobe is more on the dressy side, choose a great pair of classic leather loafers, or if your style veers more casual, how about a versatile pair of boat shoes? Either style goes with a range of outfits.
Brighter, Bolder Ties
This year, bold and pastel colored dress shirts are more popular than they’ve been in awhile. But if you’re not ready to wear a pink dress shirt to the office, it’s cool, really. One pastel that works well for a lot of guys is yellow. If you have the right coloring for it, a yellow button-down looks great without making you look like an Easter egg. But if you’re not buying into the bright shirt trend, you could add a couple of bright or pastel ties to your closet and get a great update without a lot of expense.
Wayfarer Sunglasses
Forget trends for a minute. If you’ve never owned a pair of classic Ray Ban Wayfarers, you’re missing out. This style transcends age, size, coloring, and time and looks terrific on just about any guy, whether your style is more laid back and 5 o’clock-shadowy or perfectly straight-laced. Other brands have their take on this style, too, like RetroSuperFuture. You’re going to want a great pair of shades this summer anyway, so why not treat yourself to the best. As long as you don’t lend them to anyone (You won’t get them back.) or sit on them, they’ll serve you well for years, and this style is one of the hottest trends this year.
